Natural Gas Prices Up

D Three Technology is happy to report that crude oil futures fell at the New York Mercantile Exchange on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 on concerns about new refinery outages in the United States; however natural gas prices were bid higher.

D Three Technology reports that crude oil futures for October 2007 West Texas intermediate crude lost 17 cents to $71.80 a barrel. Reformulated gasoline fell a bit with 2 cents lower to $2.02 a gallon, while heating oil was down 1 penny (U.S. dollars) to just under $2.00 per gallon.

D Three Technology is happy to report that the near-term natural gas contract gained 21 cents to $5.59 per million British thermal units.
There have been stock market investor concerns about short-term oil refining capacity which has weighed heavily on the crude oil mercantile market. Mercantile traders are still measuring the impact of a fire that occurred last week at Chevron's Pascagoula, Mississippi refinery. The refinery Chevron Pascagoula, Mississippi is capable of processing 330,000 barrels of crude oil a day

Natural Gas Venture for Rocky Mountain

Questar Pipeline Company and Enterprise Products Partners announced today, August 27, 2007 from Salt Lake City and Houston, Texas that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a new natural gas pipeline.

Questar Pipeline Company, a subsidiary of Questar Corporation and an affiliate of Enterprise Products Partners L.P. have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a new natural gas pipeline hub in the Rockies, USA. As proposed and presented by the two companies, the White River Hub would be a header system that will be owned equally by the two companies. The United States facilities would connect Enterprise’s natural gas processing complex near Meeker, Colorado, with up to six interstate pipelines in the Piceance Basin area, including Questar Pipeline.

Questar Pipeline Company, a subsidiary of Questar Corporation and an affiliate of Enterprise Products Partners L.P. have initially designed the 30-inch hub pipeline that would have the capacity to transport more than 2.5 billion cubic feet per day and would provide hub-related services for natural gas producers, marketers and purchasers in the Rocky Mountain area. The jointly owned White River Hub pipeline would extend about 7 miles from Questar Pipeline’s Greasewood, Colorado facilities to the nearby Enterprise Meeker natural gas processing complex. In addition to Questar Pipeline, the pipelines that are expected to be connected to the White River Hub are the Rockies Express Pipeline, owned by Kinder Morgan, Sempra and ConocoPhillips; Kinder Morgan’s TransColorado Gas Transmission Company; El Paso’s Wyoming Interstate Company and Colorado Interstate Gas Company; and the Williams-owned Northwest Pipeline Corporation. This system would allow shippers on these pipelines to access markets throughout the country.

British Petroleum - Whiting Permit Not To Be Used

United Press International reported from Whiting, Indiana on August 23, 2007 that British Petroleum in the United States of America has backed off plans to increase pollution discharges into Lake Michigan after public outrage over its recent receiving approval of a dumping permit for its Whiting, Indiana refinery.
The Whiting Indiana refinery, located three miles south of the Illinois-Indiana border, is planning a $3.8 billion expansion and the British Petroleum oil company had won approval from the state of Indiana to dump substantially more liquid ammonia and sludge into Lake Michigan, the drinking water source for millions in the United States Midwest.
British Petroleum America chairman and president Mr. Bob Malone said, “Ongoing regional opposition to any increase in discharge permit limits for Lake Michigan creates an unacceptable level of business risk for this $3.8 billion investment and we will not make use of the higher discharge limits in our new permit.”
British Petroleum promotes itself as an environmental consciousness corporation in advertising began facing a blistering and withering criticism after the Chicago Tribune ran a story about the project in July 2007. More than 100,000 people signed petitions opposing the Whiting, Indiana dumping permit allowing increased dumping in the lake.
British Petroleum said the refinery expansion project that will create 2,000 construction jobs and 80 permanent jobs at the 118-year-old refinery will be changed and could even be canceled.

Natural Gas Prices Down - August 25, 2007

The Associated Press reported this week that oil and gasoline prices rebounded on Thursday, August 23, 2007 from sharp stock market losses taken earlier in the week, as a more stable stock market alleviated stock traders' worries about an economic slump dampening demand for oil, natural gas and gasoline.
The energy markets of oil, natural gas and gasoline have fallen recently despite the threat of hurricanes, with many stock investors betting that credit might be tightening so much as to stifle economic growth. Also pressuring prices, the summer peak driving and air-conditioning seasons are winding down as winter approaches, and the winter looks like it could be a mild one, which means that heaters won’t be turned up high to keep us warm.
Crude oil prices got a boost Thursday, August 23, 2007 after the stock market appeared to have gained some price stability, but crude oil is still down nearly 3 percent from last Friday. Gasoline prices have dropped 5.7 percent since last Friday, and natural gas has tumbled nearly 20 percent. Natural gas storage in the United States is extremely high, which sets the stage for seasonal price drops.

Natural Gas in India - Part 1

The India business wire reported today that discussing the price of natural gas in the country of India has become a significant issue for the Indian government and the India industry. The natural gas issue, however, is that we must use whatever resources we have as efficiently as possible. While the Indian hydrocarbon reserves - both oil and natural gas reserves- are depleting very quickly fast, natural gas prices are bound to go up. The efficient use of natural gas can prove to be a reliable solution to this problem of hydrocarbon shortages and state Indian governments and industry needs to step up the adoptation of fuel efficient methods, especially for power generation said Ajit C Kapadia, vice chairman, Centre for Fuel Studies and Research.

“India’s combined cooling, heating and power (CCHP) mode must be given top priority as it can be the ideal solution, Ajit C. Kapadia told Business Standard online, “The Planning Commission report on integrated energy policy and the statement by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and former President APJ Abdul Kalam stress efficient use of our fuel and energy resources. Natural gas in large quantities — to the extent of 80 to 100 million standard cubic meters per day is likely to be available in the next 2-3 years beginning June 2008. The ongoing debate on price of Natural Gas may be too hot to handle politically, but instead the focus should be on efficiency.” Suggesting the combined cooling, heating and power CCHP mode as a solution, he said, “It has been experienced not only by the international community, but by Indian industries as well that when Natural Gas is used in combined cooling, heating and power (CCHP) mode, it is possible to get 75-90 per cent thermal efficiency.” “The industry consumes 35 per cent of the energy generated in India. Even if all 100 million standard cubic meters per day of natural gas is used in combined cycle mode of power generation , it can only supply 25,000 Megawatt power (combined cycle 50 per cent efficiency mode).

Daewoo Confirms Giant Reserves in Burma Gas Fields

Chosun.com reported on its website today, August 23, 2007 that Daewoo International's gas reserves in Burma were found to contain up to 9.1 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. The natural gas reserves in the two fields that the company discovered in 2004 amount to 191 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The Burma natural gas reserves owned by Daewoo International are the largest natural gas fields to be discovered by a Korean company. The natural gas amounts to more than nine times Korea's annual gas consumption, which is more than one trillion cubic feet.

Daewoo International said on Wednesday, August 23, 2007 that it has confirmed that the natural gas reserves in the Block A-1 and A-3 natural gas fields in the northwestern Sea of Burma measure from 5.4 trillion cubic feet to 9.1 trillion cubic feet.

Daewoo International reported that about 4.5 to 7.7 trillion cubic feet of gas could be commercialized from the reserves, based on a recent evaluation by Daewoo consultants Gaffney, Cline & Associates. Daewoo International plans to start selling the natural gas in 2010.

Natural Gas Inventory Up

The United States national supply of natural gas that is in storage grew last week and is about 13 (thirteen) percent above the five-year average for this time of year, a government report said Thursday.

The United States Energy Department's Energy Information Administration said in its weekly report that natural gas inventories held in underground storage in the lower 48 states increased by 23 billion cubic feet to 2.93 trillion cubic feet for the week ending Aug. 17, compared with about 2.9 trillion cubic feet for the previous week.

The United States inventory level was above the five-year average of 2.59 trillion cubic feet in underground storage, and also above last year's storage level of 2.85 trillion cubic feet, according to the government data.

Natural Gas vs Coal in the year 2020

Carnegie Mellon University reported today, August 22, 2007 that it is possible that imported natural gas into the United States may be in the long run environmentally worse than coal generated power plants. A team of Carnegie Mellon University researchers are strongly stating that the choices United States officials make today could end up limiting how the United State’s future energy needs are met and could cost consumers billions in idle power plants and associated infrastructure systems.

In the upcoming Sept. 1, 2007 edition of the Environmental Science and Technology journal, the Carnegie Mellon researchers, whose names are Paulina Jaramillo, W. Michael Griffin and H. Scott Matthews demonstrate that liquefied natural gas, also known as LGN, imported from foreign countries, non United States, and used for electricity generation could have 35 percent higher lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions than coal used in advanced power plant technologies.

H. Scott Matthews of the Carnegie Mellon University research team was quoted as saying, "Investing in LNG infrastructure today could make sense if it helps moderate natural gas prices and keeps existing natural gas power plants running. But making this investment ultimately locks us into certain technologies that make it harder for us to change paths in an increasingly carbon-constrained world," said Matthews, an associate professor in Carnegie Mellon's Civil and Environmental Engineering Department.

Natural Gas Prices Fall a Bit

United States crude oil prices dropped below $70 a barrel to an eight-week low Tuesday, after Hurricane Dean weakened, running out of storm and it appeared the storm would have no lasting effects on Mexican oil production in the Gulf.

Gasoline and natural-gas prices also extended their sharp losses from Monday because traders are betting that demand is falling and that supplies are safe from weather interruptions.

Ohio Natural Gas Prices

Ohio Natural Gas Prices for Home Owners

The website at www.ohio.com wrote on August 19, 2007 that there are several tips on natural gas supply contracts that one needs to consider: The first is to check prices around town. Company officials confirmed all of their prices as of Friday, August 17, 2007 but rates change often, so you'll have to double-check with the company. Also, you can check pricing year round through two state agencies that both put together charts of current natural gas offers. The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, at http://www.puco.ohio.gov or 800-686-7826, updates its natural gas pricing chart every Thursday, and the Ohio Consumers' Counsel, at http://www.pickocc.org or 877-742-5622, updates its natural gas chart every Monday. Natural gas prices published Saturday-Sunday-Monday will be slightly different from those charts posted now since I had prices as of Friday

Colorado Oil and Gas Production

The oil and gas industry of Colorado is very important to that state and its new industry commission has been expanded from seven board members to nine, after the elections last year brought in a Democratically controlled legislature.

Colorado will be seeking comments from the industry and the public as new rules are written for the energy commission. Colorado state officials plan public meetings across the state and likely will release a preliminary proposal by February, 2008.
A recent, state-funded report said the Colorado oil and gas industry contributed nearly $23 billion in direct and indirect economic benefits to the state in 2005. Industry officials have said oil and gas operations provide about 70,000 high-paying jobs statewide.

The Colorado oil and gas industry generated $515 million in severance and local property taxes and mineral royalties for the state of Colorado last year. Sherman said the revenue, like the number of drilling permits, is expected to rise this year.
Nearly 6,000 drilling permits were issued last year in the State of Colorado. Sherman said the total has doubled over the past three to four years.
And natural gas drilling is increasing statewide, with some of the most intense development in western Colorado. With as many as 43,000 new oil and gas wells possible on federal land in that part of the state over the next 20 to 25 years and tens of thousands more on private land, Sherman said he doesn't see the energy boom abating for a long time.

Natural Gas Prices up August 15, 2007

The Associated Press reported today August 15, 2007 and Forbes Magazine posted it on their Internet website saying that energy futures jumped on growing concern that two tropical storms - one that could become a hurricane - might threaten gas and oil installations in the Gulf of Mexico. This was a continuation of the story that began on Friday, as we saw today that light, sweet crude for September delivery rose $1.57 to $73.95 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, and September gasoline rose 4.91 cents to $2.0229 a gallon.
In other New York Mercantile trading, heating oil futures rose 6 cents to $2.0425 a gallon, and natural gas prices gained 14 cents at $7.08 per 1,000 cubic feet, but that natural gas price will take a while to trickle down to the well owners.
The oil and gas day traders appeared to be more concerned about the weather than the government's petroleum inventories report, even though the petroleum inventory report showed larger-than-expected draws, withdrawals on crude and gasoline United States inventories last week.
The United States Energy Department's Energy Information Administration said oil refinery utilization rose 0.5 percentage points to 91.8 percent of capacity in the week ended Aug. 10, exactly in line with the expectations of analysts surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires.

Minnesota Solar Energy Incentives - Part 3

Once again we’d like to talk about our friends, family and relatives who reside in Minnesota and are ready to learn a little bit more about solar energy rebates for this great state of Minnesota. There are non-taxable entities include non-profits, schools, government, tribes, etc. who if they are working with Minnesota Power & Great River Energy offer rebates. Minnesota cities of Austin, Owatonna, and Rochester Utilities offer the Solar Choice program which provides a production incentive. Other utilities may on a case-by-case basis offer 30% of costs after rebates and $2000 individual limit, but there is no business limit, which is the same as the United States Internal Revenue Service.

Gasoline Prices A Little Lower Today

John Wilen of the Associated Press wrote on August 13, 2007 that energy investors have been keeping one eye on their stocks, which rose in early trading on news that central banks are taking steps to increase liquidity and help economies avoid fallout from the worsening sub-prime mortgage-related credit crunch, said Jim Ritterbusch, president of Ritterbusch & Associates in Galena, Ill.

“We're getting a little lift from equities,” Ritterbusch said, yet there are oil prices that have also been following gasoline futures, which rose on scattered reports of refinery outages over the August 2007 weekend. “We've had a couple refinery issues that are driving a little strength into gasoline,” Ritterbusch said, as well as a bit of nervousness about the possibility of a tropical storm or hurricane forming in the Atlantic which is also underpinned prices, the analyst said.

Light, sweet crude for September delivery rose $1.64 to $73.11 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, and September gasoline jumped 4.22 cents to $1.997 a gallon.
In London, September Brent crude rose $1.42 to $71.81 a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange.
At the pump, meanwhile, the national average price of a gallon of gas fell 3.1 cents over the weekend to $2.77, according to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. Retail gas prices, which typically lag the futures market, peaked at $3.227 in late May on concerns the refining industry would be unable to supply enough gasoline to meet demand during the peak summer driving season.

Natural Gas in Trinadad and Tobago

The news in natural gas coming out of the Associated Press today is about Trinadad and Tobago, in which two energy experts say the next set of exploration for natural gas will be critical as an audit shows there are only enough reserves to last until 2019.
The news flavor of Saturday presented by Gregory McGuire, a lecturer of energy economics at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine campus said yesterday the audit figures do not necessarily spell doom for the economy.
Professor McGuire, however, said it definitely shows the need for more exploration.
"This year is critical in so far as a number of new areas are being explored and there is a lot of optimism about it. My eyes are really on the new exploration," McGuire said.
He said that ideally, that Trinadad and Tobago would need finds that average about 1.2 trillion cubic feet of gas per year, given an existing rate of usage of 1.3 trillion cubic feet per year in Trinadad and Tobago.
Trinadad and Tobago reported Professor McGuire noting only two fifths of the marine areas in Trinidad and Tobago have been fully explored, and like, Paul, was confident gas will be found.
Energy Minister Dr Lenny Saith of Trinadad and Tobago said Friday that the existing production rate is 3.9 billion cubic feet (bcf) per day and the projected production rate for the next 12 years is now set at 4.5 (bcf) per day.
Trinadad and Tobago Energy consultant Tony Paul, the managing director of Caribbean Energy Specialists also said the Trinadad and Tobago audit shows the need for more exploration, as the amount of reserves already identified and now in use has been on the decline.

Natural Gas Pipeline Vote of Confidence

The Associated Press and picked up Forbes magazine reported today that the United States Federal Energy Regulatory Commission energy regulators on Friday said they gave a positive vote of confidence environmental review of a 270-mile natural gas pipeline project affecting Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama.
The pipeline natural gas project, known as Southeast Supply Header, is a joint venture between CenterPoint Energy (nyse: CNP - news - people ) and Spectra Energy (nyse: SE - news - people ) Corp., both of Houston
The project is designed to connect the natural gas pipelines in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas with another line that also connects itself with the pipeline that runs from the Gulf of Mexico to Florida.
